Proxim offers new line of 3.5 GHz WiMax products

Proxim, a wholly owned subsidiary of Terabeam, has launched a family of WiMax products operating in the 3.5 GHz band. The Tsunami MP.16 offers a modular, scalable approach to system deployment, making these WiMax products suitable for a wider range of service providers, from rural providers to metropolitan providers. Proxim's Lionel Chmilewsky said, "...we have not had a product for the rapidly-growing 3.5 GHz market. By leveraging the radio, mechanical, networking and management experience behind our existing Tsunami product line, we are bringing a proven platform to the 3.5 GHz market. While some competing products have been developed from scratch, the Tsunami MP.16 is actually our third-generation point-to-multipoint product set."

ALSO: Bath, U.K.-based picoChip has signed an agreement to work in partnership with Spanish test laboratory and test systems developer Centro de Tecnologia de las Comunicaciones (CETECOM), which is the WiMax Forum's sole approved testing laboratory for the certification of WiMax products. The contract calls for picoChip to supply CETECOM with its multi-core processor arrays and software to be incorporated into CETECOM's protocol conformance tester, which is being developed jointly with Aeroflex. This platform will be available in 2006 to allow certification testing of 802.16e devices to start before the end of the year and provide both BS and SS test suites and sniffer capabilities. Report
